How Our Faith is a Light for Others

It’s amazing when we realize just how many people we influence with our words and actions every day, whether for good or for bad. Our kids, our family, co-workers, neighbours and storekeepers are all affected by what we say and do, and so it’s crucial as Christians that we understand how our faith is a light for others.

Even though the eyes are said to be the windows to our soul, it’s really our words and our actions that reveal who we are. The Bible says in Matthew 15:11 that it’s not what goes into the belly that defiles a person, but it’s what comes out of the mouth that defiles them. So, our words are especially important because they not only define who we are and what we believe in, but they portray the image of what’s in our heart and that image is what will inspire or discourage others to be like us and follow the Lord.

The Bible also makes a comparison of our actions to fruit in Matthew 7:17 where it says that every good tree bears good fruit and that a bad tree bears bad fruit.  This means that if we truly believe what we are standing in faith for, then we will act and react on the Word through our actions and our words. If we do not have the conviction in our hearts, then our actions will be fabricated to appear as if we’re acting in faith, and people will sense the lack of sencerity and know that we’re just trying to be something that we’re not.

So, when we learn the truth about faith and works and how we cannot get the victory by performing works without faith, or by claiming to have faith but without works, then we begin to understand how dangerous taking a stand in faith will be unless we are convicted in our hearts to first believe and then act.

We are God’s children and His representatives on this earth, and we have a responsibility as Christians to let others see our light which is our hope and trust in God and which is made known through our words and actions. Even though our purpose for standing in faith and believing God for healing is a personal issue, we have to realize that people around us are watching to see what happens. They’re hoping for us to get healed, but underneath it all they really want to see if God is real, if He does answer prayer, if He can be trusted and if He truly is Our Heavenly Father, a spiritual concept that is hidden and lost in today’s world which is ruled by Pharmaceuticals and logic.

God takes our trials and tribulations and turns them around so that we come through them with a blessed victory, not only for our own good but for the good of everyone around us. In Romans 8:28 He says that “all things work together for good, to those who believe and are called according to His purpose.” This means that if we believe in our hearts that God can and will heal us, and we stand in faith and let it be known to others that God is good and answers prayer, then not only will we be blessed but the people around us will be blessed.

Our stand in faith is a light and a beacon that will show others the way to God. We need to keep it shining, keep believing and keep focusing on God’s Word and the victory we have in Him, because through our stand in faith many can be saved.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven”….Matthew 5:16
