A Sleeping Pill for Christians…

Sometimes life gets so busy, so hectic that the day becomes one long challenge, and before you know it all the days are  blending together into one progressive day as the entire season passes right by you. You lay in bed at night and your mind becomes a rerun of everything you did during the day and you begin to worry about the challenges that await you tomorrow.

You want to relax your mind and fall asleep but it seems impossible to unwind because there is so much that you have to do, so much that you’re responsible for, and it’s getting harder to keep up. Perhaps a drink would relax you. Perhaps a sleeping pill would put your mind to rest….. But there is a better way, a pill that is so easy to swallow and one that will give you the rest you need.

Count your blessings! It may take some discipline, but force yourself to NOT focus on your struggles and on the things that are keeping you busy. Instead, focus on the things that you have.

Close your eyes and thank God for your family that keeps you busy day and night, and thank God that you have a job even if you hate it because you have a means to earn money to support that family that you love.

Thank God for your clothes and for your car and for your possessions even though they may be old and broken and you want so badly to have new.

Thank God for your health even though you may have some issues that need healing because you still have a body that works, you still have a mind that thinks and you still have a heart that loves.

As you count your blessings, you’ll begin to see that you ARE blessed and that God has kept you in spite of everything that’s going on in your life. You’ll see that He IS very present and that perhaps you’ve pushed Him to the back while you try to do everything yourself.  You’ll see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living and as you relax, you’ll realize that all you have to do is ask.

Ask for His help and then expect an answer. God is your provider. He WILL give you victory over all your struggles but you have to ask Him, trust Him and watch for the changes He makes.

It may seem like a big pill at first, but with God all things are possible. Just start by counting your blessings and you’ll soon feel His presence and begin to see answers you’d never thought of. You’ll see that He’s been there all along, and before you finish counting you’ll see how blessed you really are.

But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus“…Phil 4:19

  1. Great post!

The “appreciation exercise” of the Life Model is very similar and has the amazing effect of bringing God peace (shalom) to our body, mind and soul. I ‘ll write about it on my blog sometime.
