When we see an apple tree, we expect to see apples; if we see oranges instead, we know it’s not real. Likewise, we may say we’re Christian, but if we continue in the world’s character in thoughts, words, and actions, then we are not real; we still belong to the world. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, He fills us with HIS Spirit, our old character dies, and we have a new character that replicates His. We don’t need to work at being kind, gracious, or merciful; it comes naturally because it’s part of who we are. The fruit we bear reveals the tree we belong to. We abide in Him: Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches!
