As the lamb is inspected for purity before it’s sacrificed on the altar, so was Jesus inspected by Pontius Pilate, who found Him without fault. But the envious chief priests wanted Jesus dead. So Pilate gave in and allowed the soldiers to beat His face beyond recognition, whip Him 39 times with the cat of nine tails, mock Him with a crown of thorns thrust deep into His head, and then nail Him to the cross, where He hung, dripping in blood, before those who loved Him and those who mocked Him. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished,” He died, and the earth quaked, the temple veil split in half, the graves opened, and thunder rattled every nerve. Jesus had fulfilled His promise for salvation, and the blood He shed on that cross at Calvary many years ago is for everyone who will accept Him as their Savior!
