Why would God tell us to love our enemies? They despise us for who we are and hurt us, and we’re supposed to be good to them? Yes, because this is how God treated us. Before we were even born, Jesus gave His life for us, and before we knew Him and while we were still deep in sin, He prayed for us and sent others to us so we’d know the truth. And He continued to love us despite our sins, and then one day we saw His love and accepted it. This is how God wants us to treat those who hurt us. We’re to show His love and mercy so they can see God in us and want Jesus as their Savior. Perhaps this is why God put them in our path, so we’d show them His love and pray for them.
