As children, we were taught to obey our parents. We didn’t always understand why, but we did it anyway because they were our parents and we loved and trusted them. Jesus told His disciples that if they loved Him, they would obey Him. We are His disciples today, and He’s telling us the same thing; if we love Him, we’ll obey Him. And to do that, we must study the New Testament so we can know Jesus and what He wants us to do, and then do it. As James 2:20 says, “Faith without works is dead,” and if we say we love Jesus because He’s our Lord and Savior, we’ll do more than sing about it; we’ll study His Word and follow Him because to love Him is to obey Him!
