Have you ever wondered why the shepherds were the first ones God told about Christ’s birth? We’d expect the religious leaders to be first, but God doesn’t look at outside performance and traditions; He sees the heart! And the shepherds—least respected in all societies at that time—loved God and knew their Messiah would be born soon. They waited for Him, and God honored their faithfulness. After they’d seen Jesus, they returned home and told as many as possible about His miraculous birth. Like the shepherds, when we have met the Lord, we want to tell others about Him and share the good tidings of great joy, that Jesus, our Savior, has come!
