In competitive races, runners don’t focus on feelings or surroundings, but on crossing the finish line. As Christians, we must focus on Jesus, what He has done and IS doing, and remember that He is running this race with us. I recently heard the heartbreaking testimony of a rescued hostage, who described the torment and fear he suffered daily. He said that to avoid giving in to the pain and fear, he focused on being rescued, and looked for any good thing to thank God for to keep him going, even something as small as a cup of tea with sugar. We need to be like him! Instead of focusing on the bad things, we should praise God for every good thing, regardless of how small, because each one helps to build our hope and faith in God, who will get us through it all.
