John was the only disciple who stayed with Jesus at the cross. The others fled in fear, not understanding what Jesus meant when He said He’d die, rise from the grave, and meet them alive in Galilee. But His death on the cross was a victory, and in His last breath, Jesus said, “It is finished!” While His battered body hung in shame, His soul went to Hades, where He dropped off our sins and, then once again filled with God’s Spirit, set all the captive believers free so they could rest in Paradise awaiting the rapture when they’d be raised with us to be with Jesus forever! This was a very special day for the captive believers; their Savior had come and set them free!
