The day following His glorious entry into Jerusalem, Jesus returned to the Temple, where He’d tossed out the merchants and animals earlier, and began to preach. The chief priests and elders immediately confronted Him, demanding by whose authority He cleansed the Temple and was now preaching. Jesus answered in parables that concluded with the kingdom of God being taken from them, and they knew He was speaking about them. They immediately began to plot His murder, fearing that the growing crowds would choose Jesus to be their priest rather than them.
