Why the Shepherds?

The Scribes and Pharisees studied the Scriptures and knew the Savior would be born. But, like today, religion was a profitable business, and they weren’t going to preach that someone greater than themselves was about to be born. Yet, outside the city were shepherds who loved God despite being poor and dirty from living outdoors with the animals. They anxiously looked for the promised Messiah’s birth, so God sent His angels to them first with the good news. It’s the same with us today; when we earnestly look for Jesus despite our surroundings, He’ll reveal Himself to us—not as a baby lying in a manger but as the risen Savior and King!
