A shepherd’s primary tool is his staff, a solid stick with a hook at one end. When a sheep gets in trouble or needs guidance, the shepherd uses the hook to pull it back; when it needs protection, the stick is used to ward off predators. As Christians in a corrupt and evil world, we often face scary or threatening situations, but we don’t run in fear because we’re not alone; Jesus is OUR Shepherd! He watches over and cares for us every minute of every day and uses His rod and His staff—the Bible—to teach, discipline, and protect us. But we MUST read it and be willing to follow Him! Then, we won’t fear evil; we’ll be comforted knowing Jesus is watching over us.
