Don’t Argue With a Fool

do not answer a fool

Recently, I visited a popular media site where people were discussing their “viewpoints” of  John 3:16. There were long posts from believers who were arguing about the truth of this Scripture with others who were refusing to change their ideas of what it meant, and both sides were getting angry in the process. We need to correct people when we see that they are not getting the biblical interpretation of Scriptures because Jesus told us to preach the gospel to the lost, but He never told us to argue with a fool.

Jesus said in Mark 16:15 to preach the gospel to all the nations. As believers, our commission is to get people to realize that they are sinners in need of a Savior, and hopefully, lead them to Jesus, or at the very least, plant the seed. Jesus will not refuse anyone who comes to Him in repentance and asks Him to be their Savior. He does not pick and choose who He will forgive because He’s put the onus on us to come to Him and ask for forgiveness. He gave His life for ours, and each of us needs to accept His sacrifice personally.

John 3:16 says He loved the world so much that “He gave His only begotten Son….” God loves every person He’s ever created—not some, not most, but all! However, not all people love God and many refuse to accept and follow Jesus—but that is their choice. God isn’t refusing them: they are refusing to accept Jesus and turn away from their sin.

  • The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.—2 Peter 3:9

Embrace-Gods-Promises

When Adam and Eve rebelled and brought sin upon the human race, God promised that He’d send a Savior to redeem them back to Himself. God was faithful and sent Jesus. However, the devil has worked non-stop since then to make sure that people don’t return to God. He flaunts sin at them and they like it and argue that it’s not sinning. He has blinded their eyes through deception so that they don’t believe the Scriptures, and this includes the followers of the new-age church.

  • The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.—John 10:10

Believers are the light in this dark world and we must lead people to Jesus. We must show God’s love and warn them that time is running out because this world is about to enter into the worst tribulation in its history. We must help those in need, feed the sick, give to the poor and always keep the peace and not judge those who refuse it. Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:14 that if they don’t want to hear it, then we are to shake the dust from our shoes and go to the next person.

We don’t engage in arguments with those who love to argue the Scriptures at their own level of ignorance. Our commission is to tell them the truth, pray for them and always be ready to help them. We are messengers of Christ, and so we don’t argue with anyone, especially with those who just want to mock God and don’t care about the truth.

Jesus is getting ready to call all believers Home, so we need to use our time wisely and prayerfully as we walk in love, share the gospel and lead souls to Jesus. We are not to cast our pearls before swine—in other words, don’t argue the precious Scriptures with those who take delight in mocking God. If they don’t want to hear the truth, then we need to move on because time is running out and there are still many who would receive salvation if we told them about Jesus. So, let’s share the love of God and His saving grace with as many as we can. We are God’s ambassadors on this earth and our job is to preach the truth, not argue with a fool.
