You Can’t Buy Love

choice between love and money, on a white background, 3d renderIt’s an old saying that’s been used to cover many diverse situations, but it’s a fact that can’t be refuted: we canNOT buy love. We can impress, persuade, convince, influence, deceive, flatter, fake, assume, and sell the concept of love, but no one can buy the heart’s unconditional commitment. Only ONE person in the world’s history has ever truly loved us and we canNOT buy His love.

When God created Adam and Eve and put them in that amazing garden, He loved them without condition, and in return, they loved Him as their Father. Their hearts were pure and their love and devotion was to God alone. But when they disobeyed Him, sin entered their hearts and separated them from God. Some people think that God left them, but He didn’t. He had to put them out of his holy garden, but it was Adam and Eve who chose to sin, and it was that sin that separated them from our Holy God. But God never stopped loving them and He immediately put His salvation plan into work.

  • For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.—Romans 8:38-39

Many Christians don’t experience a peaceful and amazing relationship with God because they are caught up with the things of this world and don’t have the time or the desire to know God—but they want all His benefits. They don’t read their Bibles or spend time in prayer but instead, leave that for the pastor to do.  They lose any hope of a relationship they could have with God because they aren’t committed to the One who gave His life to save theirs.

One GodThe Bible says that we should not have any gods in our life except for God, and yet, so many of us are guilty of putting our own desires and pleasures and even needs above God. We don’t realize that these things actually become our gods because we serve them, and we cannot serve two masters. It’s all about the heart, and it needs love, so if we don’t seek after the love of God—which is FREE—then we turn to the things of this world and our love for them often comes with a price. Many of us are guilty of idolatry because we make things or desires in our lives more important that the love of God that He has already demonstrated to us on the cross.

  • You shall have no other gods before Me.—Exodus 20:3

God is not sitting in Heaven with a militant voice saying, “You worship me or else!” God is saying that if we don’t worship Him, then we are worshiping something else (the devil) which means that we are not under His protection and that the devil of this world is being glorified through our works. It means that we are allowing ourselves to be ruled by sin, and sin separates us from God and His love.

New-age Christians believe that they can sin after they’re saved because all was forgiven on the cross, and they have no conscience or knowledge between good and evil. They believe that God loves and accepts them just as they are. This is foolish thinking and their misconception of salvation will impair their walk with God here on earth and jeopardize their future if they don’t repent.

  • Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.—Galatians 5:1

Gods loveSalvation is a gift from God, given because He loves us! John 3:16 says that He loved the people in the world so much that He sent His only begotten Son to earth so He could take on OUR sins and die in our place for us. You can’t buy that kind of love because there is nothing than any of us have that comes even remotely close to God’s sacrifice of love for us.

Many so-called Christians think that their collection of material objects and wealth is a sign of God’s love for them, but the things of this world have nothing to do with God’s love or with eternity. They belong to this world, and even though God does bless us with material possessions, they are not proof of God’s love for us. We know God loves when we receive Christ as our Savior and Lord because then we have peace and joy in our heart, and there is nothing than can equal the value of this precious gift of love.

  • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.—Romans 6:23

After Jesus ascended to Heaven, a man named Simon came to Peter and was overtaken by the love and power that Peter demonstrated as he preached the gospel of Christ. But this man wanted the gift of God’s Holy Spirit without repenting of his sins and being born again. He wanted to could buy it. Peter was furious and we read in Acts 8:18-24 how he rebuked Simon for attempting to buy God’s love.

Salvation truly is a FREE gift to anyone who wants to be redeemed back to God, but first they must realize they are a sinner in need of a Savior. Anyone can come to God and repent of their sins, be forgiven and receive God’s Holy Spirit in their heart. God will not refuse anyone who genuinely repents. But no one—NO ONE—can buy God’s love. It is a FREE GIFT from God that He gives to those who honestly repent and want to know and follow Jesus.

  • For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.—Ephesians 2:8

Jesus wasn’t paid to die for our sins: it was His gift to us. He left Heaven in all its glory to become a man and die that barbaric death on that filthy cross for you and for me! And when we realize how valuable the gift of life that Jesus gave to us really is, we will want to follow Him, obey His laws out of the willingness of our heart, and share the message of salvation with others.

We are free from sin, free to come boldly to the throne of grace, and free to praise and worship God because we have received the gift of love that was given to us! It’s freely available to anyone who wants to know and love Jesus and serve Him as King forever! You can’t buy God’s love, but you can receive it when you are willing to repent, turn from the world and follow Jesus!
