Because God Said So!

If you love me1

Many Christians accept Jesus as their Savior, but neglect to make Him their Lord. The reason there are so many doctrines is that they don’t obey God, but we don’t have a choice; we must obey Him. Why? Because God said so!

Most believers refer to Jesus as “Lord”, but do they really know what that means? A Lord is someone who rules over us; it is someone who WE are subject to. Webster’s dictionary says that Lord means, “a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due.” We belong to Jesus because He bought us with a price—His own blood. He paid the debt of our sins for us. He cleansed our heart, took our soul out of the possession of the devil and redeemed us back to God; therefore, we belong to Him.

  • For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.—1 Corinthians 6:20

Our obedience to God is not dependent upon our emotions, our mood, our circumstances or our convenience. We MUST obey God at all times regardless of how we feel or what we think. Jesus is our Lord  and that means that He is the Head over us. We are His servants and we are obligated to obey Him, not our own desires. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we also accept Him as our Lord. When Jesus saw the fig tree that wasn’t producing fruit, He cursed it and it died. We can call Jesus “Lord”, but unless we mean it in our heart and obey God as His servant, it means nothing to God.

  • Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.—Matthew 7:22-23

Christians become too callous when they think that they can be saved and not treat Christ with the absolute respect and honor that He deserves. God gave His Commandments in Exodus 20, and the very first one is, “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” This means that our loyalty, our allegiance and our obedience is first and foremost to God.

follow Jesus1When Jesus called His disciples—and we are His disciple, as well, when we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord—He said to them, “Follow me!” He didn’t tell them to tag along and do things their way; He told them to “follow” Him, and so that means that Jesus is the leader.

  • And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?—Luke 6:46

Jesus is the same today as He was yesterday and as He will be tomorrow. God does NOT change. He is not a man  that He should or could lie. God is Holy. God is righteous. God is the potter and we are the clay. He is fair and He is just, and He is our God.

When we receive His Spirit in us, we are given the opportunity to know God, and we do this by studying the Scriptures and meditating on them day and night so we can get His truth deep into our soul where it will remain forever. This truth changes our thoughts and our actions so that we become like Jesus.

  • Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.—Matthew 7:21

We are told throughout the Bible to “obey God”. Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 6:16 that we are a slave to the one who we choose to obey. If we follow the way of the world and change God’s words, then we are not obeying God but instead, we are obeying the god of this world. We can only serve one master, which means we can’t assume that we are saved and still follow the world.

  • Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.—2 Corinthians 10:5

The standards that God has set out in the Scriptures cannot be changed, deleted or modified in any way. If God said not to do it, then we are NOT to do it. If God says to do it, then we ARE to do it. The different denominations of church in today’s world may accept change and even promote it, but we don’t serve men; we serve God. Neither the politicians nor the church leaders have the authority above God to change God’s laws. God said not to murder, so abortions are a sin, period. God says not to commit adultery so sexual encounters outside of marriage is a sin. God is the Creator and He made man and woman and told them stay together and have children, so there is NO other gender. Apostle Paul says that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we should show ourselves holy unto God and that means that we treat our body in a holy manner that gives glory to God.

We can’t show our love to God any better than to follow and obey Christ Jesus, His Son who said in Matthew 5:17 that He didn’t come to replace the law, but to fulfill it. Jesus is the Messiah, the Holy Son of God and He saved us on that cross. Therefore, we follow and obey God with a cheerful heart, not because the pastor tells us to, but because God said so!

  •  Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.—1 Samuel 15:22

Obey God
