Spreading Hate

Never before in our lifetime has the issue of “hate” been as globally relevant as it is today. It seems that as Christians, whatever we say in defense of God’s law or His sovereignty is interpreted as “hate”. Sadly, many Christians have chosen to stay quiet because of their fear of spreading hate.

The world is striking out because it wants to live in sin and it doesn’t like to hear that it’s wrong; after all, many of their lifestyles and actions are legal. They can call it what they want and they’re free to choose, but it doesn’t change the fact that sin is sin. Nor does it negate our responsibility as children of God to tell them the truth. It can be a tough path for Christians to walk on at times, but when we keep our eyes on God and in His Word, we can walk it with confidence. But we need to get on that path!

All Scripture

Study the Bible. We need to get God’s truth deep into our heart and mind so that we know it and not hesitate as in maybe or could be or I’m not sure. We need to be stable on the truth so that our words can’t be misinterpreted or twisted because we couldn’t speak them with boldness.

  • So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.—Romans 10:17

We don’t want to be deceived by false doctrines or defeated by so-called Christians because we don’t know the Scriptures. We must study the Scriptures every day so that they become life to our soul!

  • This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.—Joshua 1:8

We can’t allow ourselves to be humbled in defeat as sinners use the Bible to defend their actions, leaving our ignorance to become doormats for their lies. We need to use the Word as our sword as we fight against this darkness.

  •  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.—Hebrews 4:12

Do not judge

Do not judge or condemn anyone. Many Christians feel that they have the right to speak out and judge the people for living in sin, but that is not our right; it belongs to Christ alone as He is the Judge. Our job is to share God’s truth with others. We are to live according to God’s ways, filled with wisdom, understanding, and truth, and overflowing in love and forgiveness. We are to pray for the lost, feed the poor, help the sick and minister to those in prison.

  • I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.….Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.—Matthew 25:35-36, 40

We are all  sinners who have been saved by grace and we must never forget that. God wants us to love others as He loved us when we were still living in sin.  If they choose to “hate” us for speaking the truth, that is their option and it’s between them and God. We did what Jesus asked us to do: we told them the truth in love and without judging.

  • And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”—Mark 16:15

light on a hill

Shine our light before all people and speak with boldness. We need to let people see the love of God in us, and yet, speak boldly so they can know that God says sin is wrong. Many will strike out at us and call us “haters” because they don’t want to change their ways, but if God’s love is in us, then our heart will ache for the lost and we’ll do all we can do to share the truth with them so they’ll be saved. We won’t want them to die lost and we’ll look beyond their anger towards us for telling them the truth, and continue to love them in spite of it.

  • For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.—John 3:16-17

We need to pray diligently for their salvation, for laborers to come to them since many won’t hear us, and we need to always be there as a friend to them. We hate the sin, but as God has shown us through His Son Jesus, we love the sinner.

  • Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.—2 Timothy 4:2

We need to be strong in the Lord and never ashamed to speak out. We must see beyond the moment and not be intimidated by the accusations of spreading hate, but rather, go forward in the proclamation of God’s love and hope!

  • I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.—Romans 1:16
