A Day of Love?

valentines dayToday is Valentine’s Day. Its origin is dark and satanic, but skipping ahead, it’s now considered to be a day of romance. Businesses will rake in big bucks from all the gifts of flowers, chocolate and unmentionables as couples put aside their conflicts and join in the nostalgia for a day of love!

To the world, this is romance! This is love! It’s one of those celebrations where people are expected to buy gifts and go out and celebrate their love for each other. If this attitude of affection were shared every day, then it would definitely be based on love and it would be wonderful, but sadly, it’s a one-day event for many people.

However, there is a love that can be celebrated every day of the year, and the intensity of this love never lessens and never fades away. It’s not a conditional Valentine’s love; it’s an eternal love! It’s the love that God has for us and that was demonstrated to us through Jesus when He died on the cross for our sins.

  • Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.—John 15:13

God loves us unconditionally! Jesus, God’s Son, left His throne in Heaven to come to this corrupt earth so that He could become the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden, their hearts were filled with sin as God’s presence departed from them. God didn’t leave them because He was angry; He left them because God is Holy and sin will burn up in His presence. God did not want to end His family this way. So He promised Eve that He would send a Savior to redeem them back to Him.

God is faithful. Jesus came and provided the salvation promised and everyone who accepts this salvation and repents of their sin is forgiven, filled with God’s Spirit and redeemed! That is love!

we love GodThere is no love greater anywhere than the love that God has for us. Many people, however, dispute this and say that God is cruel and uncaring. They look at the corruption throughout the world and see how horrific life has become, at all the poverty and injustice, and they blame God for doing nothing about it. And they do that because they don’t know God; they don’t know the Scriptures, and they don’t see who the real culprit is. This is very sad because through it all, they miss out on God’s love for them.

John 3:16 says that God loves us unconditionally. Jesus died for everyone, not just for a few. God loves His creation BUT He hates sin! It’s this sin that has managed to destroy the hearts of millions of people. They are blinded to the truth and in ignorance, choose to live their own lives their own way. Then they blame God when things go wrong. You can’t have it both ways. Either you love God and serve Him with a whole heart, or you love the world and fall prey to the devil’s clutches.

  • No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.—Matthew 6:24

God’s love is true and it’s free to everyone, but to receive it, we must accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This is the greatest demonstration of love that this world will ever know! Yet, many don’t want to know it. They would rather live life their way, and the danger of that is that no one knows when God will say, “Your life is over!” What sinners will face after death is an eternity of hell and separation from God. There’s no chance to repent then; the time is now! The day of salvation is now!

Besides dying on the cross for our sins (John 3:16), God shows His love to His children in so many ways:

He heals us: Exodus 15:26

He supplies our needs: Philippians 4:19

He floods us with His peace: John 14:27

He fills us with joy and it becomes our strength: Nehemiah 8:10

He is our comforter: John 14:16

He takes on our burdens: 1 Peter 5:7

He clothes us: Matthew 6:30

He directs our path through life: Proverbs 3:6

He answers our prayers: 1 Peter 3:12

He gave us His book to study so we can know Him: 2 Timothy 3:16

He teaches us all things: John 14:26

He holds us in the palm of His hands: Isaiah 49:16

He will never leave us nor forsake; we can depend on God: Hebrews 13:5

There is no greater love than God’s love for us who know Jesus as our Savior, and there is no greater relationship to have with God than to love Him with our whole being. No man-made day of love can ever come close to the eternal love and peace that floods our soul when we realize what true love is!

everlasting love
