In this era of new age “Christianity” and false doctrines, many Christians don’t know that their soul craves to be with God. He created our soul and put it into a body. This is why people are always looking for some spiritual connection in life—they are searching for God and don’t even know it. But those who find God know that there is no place on earth that compares to being in His presence.
When God created Adam and Eve, they looked forward to Him coming in the evening and spending time with them. This was the greatest part of their life in the Garden. This is what they lived for—to be in His presence. And God had told them not to eat the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because they’d die, but they disobeyed Him and ate it anyway. And they began to die that day and they brought the curse upon all mankind so that each of us will die sometime.
But the body dying wasn’t the worst part for Adam and Eve; it was God separating Himself from them that hurt the most. They were devastated that He had to leave them, and their repentance was genuine. They were truly sorry and didn’t want to live without God. And God knew that they were sorry, but sin was now in them and He couldn’t stay. So God shared His plan of redemption with them that gave them—and us—the hope of being with Him forever.
God created a second Son, Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, and she taught Jesus just as she did her other children. Jesus had no sin in Him, and He was faithful to God! And when He grew up and was baptized by John the Baptist in the River Jordon, God’s Spirit came into Him, and God once again lived among the people, just as He did in the days of Adam.
Jesus knew that God wanted Him to be the Redeemer who would take all of our sins upon Himself on the cross and then be condemned to hell with our sins. And Jesus was faithful to the cross, and He became our salvation. Our sins are gone! Jesus provided a way whereby all mankind could come back to God and live as it was originally with Adam and Eve.
But salvation is personal and must be accepted personally. Jesus died for everyone, but each one of us must come to Him and repent of our sins and ask Him to come and live in our heart. Those who don’t will face Jesus the King one day at the Judgment seat and be condemned because of the sin in them. But when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven, our soul becomes pure, and God’s Spirit comes to live inside us because we belong to Him. And so God walks this earth once again—through believers.
Yet sadly, many people become Christians and never seek to go beyond the step of salvation. They never let go of this world and struggle to be a Christian The Bible says that we cannot serve two masters. This world is controlled by a devil that wants to destroy us, and many so-called Christians don’t even realize it. They don’t understand that life begins with salvation but that it requires us to change and seek after God to keep it.
God wants us to know Him and so He’s given us the Scriptures. If we study the Old Testament long enough, we begin to realize who God is through the people that He worked with. We realize that God has never changed and that Jesus became the temple of God who would give up His life to save ours.
As we study, we are drawn closer to God. We learn to obey Him and we realize the value of praise and worship. Songs of worship are no longer just amazing lyrics to awesome music; they come alive and bring us into the presence of God. Our heart becomes one with God and we realize that we’re in a place we never want to leave.
We must come out of this world’s way of thinking and seek God—seek to be in His presence! There is an amazing peace in His presence, and a joy and an excitement and a hope that no physical lust can even compare. There is another whole world in His presence that the people of this world can’t even comprehend. It’s beyond their mind’s ability to imagine. There is no darkness in His presence; evil cannot touch us there. And once we’ve been in God’s presence, we know that there is no place better to be! Our faith and trust in God grow and we gradually become totally dependant on Him, and He becomes our only God.
In His presence, we begin to see that He is an awesome God and that He loves us. We realize that there is nothing that can separate us from His love. He becomes our life—our reason for living. We have confidence that He will be with us through the trials that come against us in this life, and that He has an eternal home in Heaven for us—the Promised Land. There should be nothing more desirable than to be in His presence!
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.—Psalm 16:11
