The best decision anyone will make in their lifetime is to receive the salvation of Christ. Unfortunately, many people think that now, with Jesus on their side to ward off the evils of this world, they can be all they want to be and have all they desire. But they have it all backwards. Christianity is not about “me”!
Social media sites are filled with memes that glory in the great life we have now because we have Jesus. Scriptures like “I can do all things through Christ” or “God will grant you the desires of your heart” are all taken out of context and falsely encourage us to do anything we want because God will bless it. We’re taught that faith is believing that God will give us whatever we ask for. But before we can do that we must first believe in God, know God and live with God so that we can know HIS will. And then we will be able to believe Him to answer our prayers because we will be praying according to His will and not our own.
- But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.—Hebrews 11:6
Christianity is all about Christ! It’s all about the God of Heaven who loves each and every person so much that He actually gave His own Son Christ Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice for OUR sins. Why? So He could take on all of our sins and pay the punishment for them so that we wouldn’t have to. So He could free us of the clutches of the devil and let us be returned to God. So that we would no longer be inherent to Adam and the sin he brought upon us, but instead, be filled with God’s Spirit. And when we accept this salvation by coming to Jesus and turning from the world, we belong to Him. Then we know that He is God our Father and that we are His children. We realize that He is not our puppet and that we are not the puppeteer.
Christianity is not about us having God on our side! It’s about us being on God’s side! We need to put the focus where it is intended and not make ourselves to be great because we’re Christians. It’s such a fine line between truth and deception because the devil disguises all he can to deceive people. He doesn’t want anyone to know and love God. He has no love in him; he doesn’t care about you or your feelings. He’ll do what he can to you and for you to keep you from knowing God and spending eternity with Him.
- The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.—John 10:10
And so many have an attitude today that says, “Now I’m a Christian, God will bless me with the desires of my heart and give me strength and ability to be all I can be.” Many still have the emphasis on “me” and not on God! And it’s because they don’t understand what receiving the salvation of Christ means.
When we accept the salvation of Christ, the nature in us changes and we go from belonging to this sinful world, to being cleansed of the sin and belonging to a Holy God. The old nature in us dies and we’re filled with God’s Spirit. Our whole way of thinking changes! We want to be part of God’s family. We want to fit in to what God wants for us. We study the Bible to learn all about God and we see that Jesus is Lord! He is the One we now serve.
- Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.—Romans 6:6
We don’t carry over our own attitudes and opinions of what we want! We come out from the world and we become part of God’s family. We now belong to Him. It’s no longer about us. We may have always wanted to seek a particular career, but once we’re saved and serving Christ, He may have something totally different in mind for us—or maybe our choice is what God want’s for us, as well. The point being, it’s not about “me” anymore; it’s about how I can serve the Lord and it’s about me doing God’s will. It’s NOT about God fulfilling my will!
- Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.—Colossians 3:24
If we are Christians, then we know that we are His children saved by His grace through the shed blood of Jesus. When we realize what Jesus actually gave for our salvation, we will truly be humbled, thankful and obedient to His word. Our focus changes and our will becomes His will. Preaching the gospel and sharing His love with others becomes our prime focus in life. And everything else is a blessing given to us by our Heavenly Father.
- But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.—Matthew 6:33
