There has never been such a need for Christians to pray as there is today! Our lives are literally hanging on a thread and if that thread snaps, then the plunge we take will be deadly. But if we can secure that thread in time, we will prevent the fall. And there’s still time to call upon God in this 2016 presidential election!
There’s no getting around it—America is going down without God!
The people of America—and Canada; let’s not forget that Canada and the U.S are intertwined—have turned their backs on God. These were once both Christian nations, but God has slowly over the years been pushed away and now our countries are both hurting big time!
People are worried about the outcome of the U.S election and so they should be! Many have foolishly put their faith and their hope in one candidate or the other, thinking that their leadership will save us. It won’t! It can’t! It’s too late! These people don’t have the answers to the problems that are going to take these countries down! Only God has the answers and only God has the ability to change the wrong that has been done and turn it around.
God loves His children. He loves those who love Him and who seek His face. God answers their prayers, and as individual Christians we are blessed. But what America needs as a nation now is God’s divine intervention. What it needs now are prayer warriors!
- I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.—1 Timothy 2:1-4
We need to pray! Our prayers will go up to God and He will answer them just as He answered Abraham. In Genesis 18 we learn how the angels of God came to Abraham and told him that God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of their wickedness (v. 20-21). God was about to give judgment because the sin was so great.
But Abraham pleaded with Him and asked God that if there were 50 righteous people there, would He destroy it. And the Lord said that He wouldn’t destroy the land for the sake of those 50 righteous people. And Abraham continued to plead with God until he got down to 10, and God told him that he wouldn’t destroy the cities if he found 10 righteous people there.
And so the angels of God went to Sodom and found Lot, who is Abraham’s nephew, and Lot’s wife and two daughters. They took them out of the city to spare their lives and then destroyed both cities. And we read that his wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. It’s interesting to note that Lot’s two sons-in-law refused to go with Lot, and since his wife looked back, perhaps it’s because she too, like her sons, did not know God and her heart was still in her homeland, as well.
These two cities had been judged by God because the people had chosen to remove Him completely from their lives so they could serve other gods. And yet Abraham pleaded with God to spare his nephew’s life, and God was faithful and He saved Lot.
This is what is happening today! Instead of just two cities turning their backs on God, we have an entire nation of cities who prefer to follow the god of this world and not the Almighty God of Heaven. And judgment is coming and it just may begin with the new president.
But if all Christians would spend time in prayer and plead before God to save our land, then God will heal the hand. In the Old Testament, when an evil king had turned the country into sin and idol worship and then died, and was succeeded by a king who was righteous before God, God worked through that righteous king and restored the land.
He will do it for America, too! But we need to pray! And we need to continue to pray and praise God that He is greater than the sin that looms in our land. God is our only hope! Prayer has power as we saw through Abraham, so let’s take the time and pray for our country today.
We know that God will keep us safe regardless of what happens because just like in the time of Moses and Pharaoh, we have the blood spread on our door posts and the angel of death will pass over us and the afflictions of the wicked will not come upon us. We are saved by the blood of Jesus! But how great it would be if we could pray fervently and see God heal the land and have His name praised and His presence restored throughout America!
- If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.—2 Chronicles 7:14
