Majority of today’s society considers antique furniture to be old-fashioned, too detailed and subjective to a dated lifestyle. And so it has been changed in design to suit today’s pace, needs and desires. So it is with the Holy Bible; it has become old- fashioned and forgotten because it doesn’t fit into today’s lifestyle.
The Bible has always been the Christian’s lifeline to God. It’s been a crucial benchmark to live by: if God said it then I believe it and will act on it! But the modern Christian doesn’t want the burden of having to study and pray to get revelation. They want it now and they want it to satisfy their religious desires and personal lifestyles. They don’t want to know God; they want God to know them.
- My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.—Hosea 4:6
The world is changing, but God is not changing. He told us in the Bible of this very time that we’re living in and He said these things would happen and that we should be ready for them—Matthew 24. But modern Christians have drifted far from God and they don’t know Him personally, nor do they understand the scriptures. They prefer to engage in a “new religion” that suits their lifestyle and secures their eternity in Heaven. They look at the Bible as being old-fashioned, outdated and misinterpreted because THEY aren’t willing to change so they can know God, commit to Him and serve Him.
Much of modern Christianity is not about God and how we can love and serve Him and get others saved, but it’s about “me” and what God should do to make “my” life more prosperous. Many Christians today don’t read the Old Testament and have no idea what the big picture of the Bible is all about. They don’t know God, His plans or of His judgment to come.
- Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.—2 Timothy 3:5
New Christianity says the rules have changed. It says that God has mellowed or that we have misunderstood Him all along because He’s not a god that will judge or condemn anyone. He loves us all and died for us all on the cross. We are all loved and blessed by Him. We are all going to Heaven regardless of what we believe and it’s not necessary any more to read the Bible because it’s better to listen to the small, still voice inside us.
Jesus said it best: “Fools!”
The devil is crafty and is attacking the church of God with the subtlety that he approached Eve with in the garden of Eden. He used deception! It worked then and it’s still working to keep people away from knowing the true God of Heaven. Yet, God knew that this would happen and that the truth through word-of-mouth would be diluted and eventually deleted over the years, so He gave us scriptures so that we could always know the truth and never be deceived.
But many people have become lazy and don’t study the Holy Bible because they feel it’s too confusing, so they buy a new modern-day version that is easy to read and understand, and that they can interpret according to their own beliefs. And they feel justified. Deception does that. It keeps its victims locked into a blind state of acceptance so they think they are Christians, yet they don’t know God.
Many others don’t even bother to read the Bible. They just trust that the leader of their church will teach them about God, and of course, they’ve chosen a church that suits their personal beliefs so they feel content. And there are hundreds of thousands of churches in the world today that teach its own version of truth—its own false doctrine. It brings in the people and the money, and it caters to modern man and so they continue to grow.
- And Jesus answered and said unto them, ‘Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many’.—Matthew 24:4-5
The Bible is not old-fashioned. It is filled with the history of mankind, where we’re going and God’s instructions for us to get there. It speaks of God’s promise to Abraham and to Israel, of the redemption of mankind through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, and of the events that will lead up to His return as King over all the earth. Nothing has changed. God’s laws are as effective today as they were way back in the book of Exodus when He first gave them. And His judgments will carry out just as He’s warned us.
The choice is ours. God’s already made His choice; He chose to provide us with salvation so that we can be saved from His wrath and judgment. And judgment is coming to all those who refuse to accept this salvation. The choice is ours, and the time is now!
Styles of furniture will change, but God’s word will never change. And only a fool would dare to say in his heart that God isn’t real, that He changes with the times. And only a selfish person would challenge God and prefer to live a life different from what God has established for us.
- The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.—Psalm 14:1
God gave us the scriptures so we could know Him and know who we are in Him, and so we could be prepared for the things that are about to come upon this earth. The Bible is not old-fashioned and should never be forgotten because in this sinful world that is racing towards judgment, we need it now more than ever to keep God in the center of our heart. False doctrines are deceiving, but the Bible stands forever true because God has inspired every word of it!
- This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.—Joshua 1:8
