The Book of Law that God gave to Moses was God’s law for all mankind; a standard of living that ruled over the people so they could know the difference between right and wrong. But it’s being greatly challenged today. Much of the so-called “church” is modifying God’s laws to meet with their own modern-day lifestyles, and the world is changing the laws so that the abnormal can become the norm. So, with these two entities wanting change to meet their own selfish lusts, they can’t agree fast enough that God’s Laws are not for today.
We’re told in Genesis 1:1 that God is the creator of the Universe. We learn in Hebrews 13:8 that Jesus (who is the Son of God) is the same yesterday, today and forever. Deuteronomy 32:4 tells us that God is just and fair in His judgments, and 1 John 3:20 tells us that He sees and knows everything. Therefore, God would not give laws and issue punishments and judgments to people of the Old Testament times who broke those laws without repentance; neither would He remind us throughout the New Testament of how serious His laws are and the need to become born again and freed from the punishment of the law, to just flagrantly change them to suit the desires of people in this time. That would make God unfair, unjust and unstable.
God is not a harsh, selfish ruler who demands things to be done His way or else! But rather, He’s a loving Father who knows what lengths the devil will go to in order to destroy His children. And so, He made laws for His children to follow so that they would not get lured into the corruption of sin without being reminded that it was wrong.
Yet, today we have changed many of the laws to suit the sinful hearts of man, and look where we are now!
The first Christian church had only one God whom they worshipped—the God of Heaven. All glory and reverence was given to Him alone and this was law. But now through the freedom of religion, our country is flooded with legal churches that worship and give glory to a false god—aka the devil. And these churches get all the same legal benefits, such as not having to pay taxes, as the real Christian church. And because the law allows these churches—even though many are under scrutiny for their damaging prosperity message that leaves people poor and the leaders billionaires—many people will be led away from God.
It used to be a shame and an embarrassment to hear someone use the Lord’s name as a swear word, or to even jest or hint at mocking His name. But today, His name is not only a swear word, He has become the centre of many cynical and disgusting jokes. We have become so used to it that we don’t even bow in shame anymore. We just let it roll off and ignore it, but we should be offended!
There was time when Sunday’s were quiet days, set aside to rest and spend time with God. People went to church, stores and businesses were closed and there was an understanding and respect given to this day. However, the laws have changed so that Sundays (or Sabbath days) are just like any other day; all businesses are open (including bars) and there is no special reverence given to the day.
Years ago the punishment for killing someone was so heavy that the people actually feared the thoughts of killing anyone. Certainly not a minister of the gospel, police officers, children or disabled people. But over the years, the “absolute law” to not kill has been watered down to “circumstantial”. In other words, if the accused has a good reason for killing someone, then the punishment for the crime will be lessened. And because of this, many of the accused are out of prison within a few years—oh, and fully educated courtesy of our tax dollars. But what’s even worse, is that the governments have turned a blind eye to the millions of unborn babies being brutally and horrifically murdered every day! But this is acceptable to people and in fact, many are fighting constantly for the right to abort a child minutes before the mother goes into natural labour. The law was changed and now THESE MURDERS ARE LEGAL!
In Bible times, when people were caught in the act of adultery they were stoned to death. There was no allowance for this sin. Then, because Moses knew that the people would only delve into adultery if they couldn’t get out of a bad marriage, he allowed divorce. But today, the law has changed and marriage is no longer necessary. It is perfectly legal for a man and woman to live together as man and wife, regardless if one or both is already married to someone else or not. And not only is this sin legal, but now the gays and lesbians can also live together as a married couple AND receive all the same legal and financial benefits. The law no longer stands against adultery, but in fact, supports it.
Changing God’s Law is Damning us!
Changing these laws has not only angered God because He said not to change anything that He’d written in the scriptures for us (Revelations 22:18 & 19), but it has drawn humanity away from God and down a corrupt and sinful path that is leading to hell. There is a good reason why God doesn’t want His laws changed, and we can see why by just looking at the world around us and comparing it to what it was just a few years ago.
In Old Testament days, the people were ruled by Godly men who sought God’s counsel daily. Yes, government and “religion” were one. But today, the people don’t want God or anything that relates to Him in their government—another bad change in the law. They want to keep the church and the government as separate entities, and this will only lead to our further destruction.
Jesus told us clearly that the law would not change, and that what would change is that those who believe in Him would no longer be punished for their sins against the law because He has taken that punishment for us.
- Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.—Matthew 5:17
We still have to obey the law. And it’s easy to do that when we love the Lord. Our children don’t walk around with a book of rules in their pocket to refer to all the time, in case they do something that offends us. But because they love us and spend time with us, they know us and they know what’s right and what’s wrong and how to please us. And they know that when they do something wrong, they need to come to us and say sorry. It’s no different with God, our Heavenly Father. We love Him so we read the Bible and get to know Him so that being obedient to Him is something we just do.
- And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.—Matthew 12:30 & 31
The Laws of God are the same today as they were the day they were given. We need to study the scriptures and learn them so that we truly represent God in everything we do.
- This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.—Joshua 1:8
Jesus was very clear that the law God gave to Moses on the tablets would not end or pass away until the end of time, and that is when the old Heaven and the old earth will pass away. And we aren’t there, yet.
- For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.—Matthew 5:18
Judgment Day is coming and we’ll all face the Lord. Those of us who are born again into God’s family through the shed blood of Jesus will not be judged for our sin of breaking God’s law. Why? Because those sins have been forgiven and we are saved from that judgment. But those who haven’t accepted Jesus and who are not forgiven for their sins will stand before the throne of God and be judged for their sins according to the law that God gave us to live by.
- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.—Romans 6:23
