As Christians, many of us have a heart to serve the Lord and to live our lives as closely as possible to pleasing Him. We love people, we share and don’t boast, we pray for others, we dress in style and yet conservative to avoid promiscuity, and we don’t smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. We know our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit and so we treat it with total respect – or do we? Is it possible that we are destroying God’s temple with food by following the crowd?
One of the greatest tragedies that we do to our body is to feed it the food that has become a big part of the grocery store and the fast food industry. Many of us are totally caught up with these foods because they’re convenient, easy to prepare, labelled as good for us, delicious and inexpensive. However, we need to analyze these foods and see what they really do to our body.
According to Hungry for Change, a group of doctors and specialists who have dedicated their lives to showing people how to be healthy, most of the foods that are available today – as in prepared, canned, packaged, pre-made and fast foods – are laden with chemicals to preserve them, to present them as appealing, and to give them all the synthetic nutrition and taste we want. As a result, we are either overweight or underweight, and ill and suffering from one or several of the afflictions of this world.
The Bible says that we will suffer afflictions simply because we live in this world, and as part of this world we eat the foods that everyone else eats – but they are deadly for us and the source of most of our afflictions. God knows us better than we know ourselves, and so He gives us a hope of overcoming these afflictions. When we pray about them, He will give us the answer, but with the answer comes the challenge of change.
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” … Psalm 34:19
Our body is the temple of God. It’s where God dwells on this earth in His effort to reach as many people as possible for His Kingdom. Jesus said in 1 Corinthians 3:16 , “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
If we are going to serve the Lord and be of any value to His ministry on this earth, then we need to realize that we can do it better when we are healthy. We need to treat our body as if it IS the temple of God instead of letting our own desires and lusts for food destroy it. Eating is the greatest addiction there is – even more demanding than drugs or alcohol. The food industry is doing its part to ensure that this addiction never stops and they do it through chemicals in the food – chemicals that drive us to eat more.
We stuff on pizzas and pastries, breads and cakes and packaged cookies, canned foods, prepared foods, and our choice of delicious fast foods – and pop. These are the recipe for sickness and disease because these “foods” are loaded with chemicals that destroy the nutritional values and add deadly toxins that our body can not handle. In turn, they destroy our immune system and our healthy DNA, and since our body cannot digest them or get rid of them, we have this unnatural element living inside us – and we wonder why we get deadly diseases – why cancer, diabetes and heart disease are at all time highs in America and around the world.
God tells us in Romans 12:2 that we should not give in to the ways of this world, but that we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind so that “ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We need to become aware of what we eat and what that food does to our body.
The Bible says in 3 John 1:2 that it is God’s will that we be in good health. He goes to say in Philippians 1:6 that, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”. If we change our lifestyle, He WILL bless us.
Most of us have been raised on supermarket foods and fast food restaurants, and it’s our lifestyle and we like it. We enjoy the convenience and the variety of delicious prepared foods and all the fantastic restaurants that cater to our taste buds. It’s the only way of eating that we know – but that does not make it the right way. We are following the crowd down a deadly path and we don’t realize it because the path is so tastefully decorated and appealing.
“My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path” … Proverbs 1:15
If we just purchased a brand new BMW, would we put cheap gasoline it the tank? Or water? Or pop? Absolutely not we because we know that doing that would literally destroy our beautiful new car by eating it up from the inside out. And yet – we will feed our body cheap, faux foods that literally eat us up from the inside out, and that make us sick with disease as they corrupt our immune system…..and we don’t stop to question it.
There is a famous cliché that says, “we are what we eat”. And this is true. We no longer eat healthy foods that God gave us because they don’t fit into our busy lifestyle, and the world has conveniently given us food that DOES fit into our lifestyle. So we eat faux food made from deadly chemicals that kill our bodies with ongoing sickness, death and destruction. And we become people who are a walking body of sickness, death and destruction.
It is not too late to change back to God’s ways. He never intended us to eat chemicals or else He would have given them to us and told us to eat and enjoy. As Christians we need to dig deep and research the truth about the food we eat. We have an obligation as the keeper of God’s temple to keep it healthy. And we need to know what we put into God’s temple and to make sure that the food we do eat is the food that God gave us to eat and not the dishes of temptation that the devil has so blatantly made the norm in this world. Daniel Chapter 1 is a great testimony about what food Daniel ate in relation to the others and what it did to his body.
There are documentaries put out by Hungry For Change that will explain in bold truth just what the foods of the supermarket are made of and the damage they do to our body. When we can realize that this lifestyle of eating is killing us and we can turn back to eating the natural food that God gave us, we will see our body transform back to the way God made it to be. I encourage everyone to go to Hungry for Change and learn the truth about the food that we eat; learn about the ten things the processed food industry doesn’t want you to know.
We need to be informed and we need to eat right so that we can present our bodies Holy and pure before God.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” … Romans 12:1.
