Does Faith Really Bring Miracles?

Many Christians struggle with the idea that miracles actually still happen – especially in today’s world, and this is one of the issues that will hinder our stand in faith. And so, we need to understand the query, does faith really bring miracles?

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:1 that, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

What problems do we need to stand in faith for?

If we could solve the problem ourselves, we would not need to stand in faith and wait on God for an answer. When we have to pay a bill and we know that we’ll have money coming in from our paycheque to pay it, we don’t need stand in faith and wait on God because the answer to our problem has already manifested. It’s answered and there’s no need to ask God for help.

But if we become ill with cancer, for example, and after surgery and healing time, the report says that the cancer has come back, that it’s aggressive and will take our life within months and that there’s nothing that they can do to stop it, then we need to seek God for His help – for a miracle. We need to believe God and stand in faith and remain standing, trusting that God will give us a miracle.

When Jesus was teaching the people, He performed many miracles and healed many people who came to Him with health issues that were beyond medical help.  And many truly believed that Jesus COULD heal them and they came to Him with the faith that He WOULD heal them.

When the Centurion came to Jesus and asked Him to heal his servant, it was because he had faith in Jesus and he believed that Jesus could and would heal him. “Only speak a word and my servant will be healed.” (Matthew 8:8)

Jesus acknowledged the centurion’s faith and said in Matthew 8:13, Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

There was also a woman in Matthew 9:20 who had an issue of blood for twelve years and no doctor could heal her. When she saw Jesus she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” This woman  had faith and believed that Jesus had the divine power to heal, and when she touched the hem of His garment she was instantly healed. Jesus saw her and said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” (Matthew 9:22)

Two blind men came to Jesus saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us.” When Jesus saw them, He asked, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” And they replied, “Yes, Lord.”  Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” (Matthew 9:27-29)

When He was in the boat with the disciples, Jesus was sleeping peacefully when a great storm arose and the men were afraid that they’d die. They woke Him up and asked Him to help them because the storm was overtaking them, and Jesus’ response in Matthew 8:26 was, “Why are you afraid, oh ye of little faith?” And then He spoke to the winds and they stopped. This was a mighty miracle because no person has ever been able to conquer the wiles of the weather.  And even though His disciples didn’t fully understand who Jesus was, they knew Him enough to believe that He could help save them from dying.  Matthew goes on to say in verse 27 that the “men marvelled and said, who can this be that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

When Lazarus died, John 11:21 & 22 says that Martha approached Jesus and said that her brother had died but then went on to say, “But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”  Lazarus had been dead four days when Jesus arrived at the tomb, and yet Martha still believed that Jesus could do something for her brother. This is faith that is believing God for a miracle and not giving up or giving in to the circumstances.

The greatest miracle of all was when Jesus DIED ON THE CROSS, took our sins to Hell, broke the chains of death, set the captives free and then, ROSE AGAIN. If we can believe that Jesus died and rose again, then this miracle – which is the epitome of miracles – will feed our faith and make us strong so that we can believe Him for anything.

“But God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes (has faith) in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.”……John 3:16
