Wisdom tells us that good things come to those who wait and that time heals all wounds, so in the same light we need to ‘give faith a chance’.

But we live in a fast paced world where modern conveniences and new technology have enabled us to have “instant access” to most things in life.  Our lives are manipulated by “instant access”, and things that take time to happen seem to be a thing of the past.

If we need something and don’t have the cash we charge it, if we’re not feeling well and don’t want to change our lifestyle we take a pill to deal with it, if we need to tell a friend something we text them, and if we’re too tired to prepare a meal we order out. Instant access.

Our lives have changed dramatically since the pioneer days where people had to work hard to get results that took time to come. We are used to instant access for everything, and sadly, we have little patience for things that take longer.

But when we’re standing in faith and believing God for something, the results are rarely instant. Why? Because it’s often the modern lifestyle that created the problem in the first place, and God wants to work with us and undo all of that to get to the problem and show us how to get the answer.

It’s not that God can’t give us instant healing or instant financial relief, but that He chooses not to. Why would our Father in Heaven choose to take the long way to victory and not want to give us instant healing?

Because He is our father and He loves us, and He wants us to prosper and be in health but with understanding and thanksgiving. He wants us to be responsible for our lives so that we are righteous before Him and a witness to the world of how to live victoriously.

When we give our own children everything they want when they want it, regardless of what they did to need it, it encourages them to be more demanding, more careless, more disrespectful and more self-righteous. They become adults who have little patience and compassion for anyone who doesn’t instantly cater to their demands – the perfect candidates for “instant access”.

So, as responsible parents we often have to work with our children so they can see how they got themselves into a particular situation. Then we teach them how to get out, and as we work with them they increase their understanding of how to live a victorious life and they develop patience and an appreciation for doing what’s right. They adopt this passion and wisdom and become the benchmark for others.

And it’s the same principle when we’re standing in faith and believing God for healing or for anything. It’s not always instant although God does still perform miracles.

In most cases it takes time to get the answer that we’re asking God for in our faith walk. As we stand in faith God ministers to us, teaches us and encourages us to live life His way and to come away from this “instant access” parody we’ve conformed our lives to.

He wants us to not only get the victory over our own problem, but He wants us to get the victory over this world so that we can live a full and abundant life, endowed with good health and prosperity. He wants us to be a witness to other people so that they too can know what it’s like to really live life.

God does not and will not compromise His way of life for us just because this world’s mandate is based on impatience and instant access. It’s not that God is slowing down but that people are moving away from Him and into a fast-paced world that is spinning out of control.

So, when we’re standing on faith and trusting God for the answer, we need to be patient and let Him change the things that need to be changed and then we’ll see the good things He has for us. And they will come but we have to let go of the ‘instant access’ theory and give faith a chance.
